Me Time Therapy
It is important that we have set out the terms under which we will be working together before the counselling begins, to avoid misunderstanding and to make our work together more productive.
I ask that you read the following agreement carefully and in full. If you have any questions regarding the content of the agreement, or would like further information, please contact me.
ETHICS AND CODE OF CONDUCT
I am a fully qualified Counsellor and member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy). I conduct my counselling practice within the BACP ‘Ethical Framework for Counsellors’, as well as their Guidelines for Online Counselling and Psychotherapy. Information relating to both documents can be found at www.bacp.co.uk.
My work is Integrative in nature, so I use tools/techniques from a variety of counselling approaches dependent on what is going to be most helpful. Sessions are therefore tailored to each individual client, rather than a “one size fits all” approach.
Sessions are 50 minutes in length and either take place over the telephone or via the ZOOM platform which is a secure, confidential, and reliable video software platform. If you choose to have a telephone appointment, then I will phone you at the scheduled appointment time. If you decide to have the session over ZOOM then at the time of booking, you will be sent a link via email and at the time of the appointment, all you need to do is click on the invitation link to join the meeting. Please note, you do not have to have ZOOM downloaded or have an account set up to join meetings. If you would however prefer sessions over a different online platform then this can be accommodated.
Sessions are normally offered weekly but may be fortnightly or at other intervals by agreement – often weekly is best at the beginning as we are getting to know each other and gaining some understanding of the issues.
I offer both short- and long-term counselling and we will review our work together on a session-by-session basis. I understand that your life circumstances may suddenly change, and you may at any point not want to continue with counselling. Whatever the reason, I will respect your decision but would ask that you inform me of this via email or text.
We will agree a session fee at the start of our work together and this will be periodically reviewed during the duration of your counselling. Payment must be made at least 24 hours in advance of a booked session, so the session is able to go ahead. If you would prefer to block pay in advance of appointments, this is also fine. If at any point you decide to discontinue counselling, then any money overpaid will of course be returned to you. Details on ways to pay will be provided to you at the time of booking.
MISSED OR CANCELLED SESSIONS
If you need to cancel or rearrange an appointment, please inform me at least 24 hours in advance. If I do not receive this required notice, then I will still need to charge for the session. It may be possible to negotiate a later time on the same day or an alternative day during the same week, and in these cases, I will not charge.
ARRIVING LATE OR TECHNICAL PROBLEMS
If you arrive late for a session, I am unlikely to be able to extend your session beyond the allocated time, due to the likelihood that other clients may be affected if I cannot start at their designated time. If either of us experience technical difficulties during our session, then I ask that we contact each other straight away via text and we try to reconnect online. If we continue to experience problems, we may need to either continue the session via telephone or reschedule the session (free of charge).
Everything you share with me remains confidential. However, there are some limits to confidentiality. I have listed the exception below:
In accordance with the BACP and my commitment to working ethically, I am required to undertake regular supervision of my work. For this purpose, I may disclose some details of our work to my supervisor, but you will not be referred to by name nor will information be given which could result in identification being made.
Where your written consent is given for confidence to be broken.
Where I am compelled to break confidentiality by a court of law.
Where information disclosed during the session is of such concern that confidentiality cannot reasonably be expected to be maintained, i.e., terrorism, crime, or if I have reason to believe that there is a risk of serious harm to yourself or others. Please note, I would keep you informed prior to disclosure unless I consider that the urgency of the situation requires immediate action to safeguard the physical safety of yourself/others.
CONFIDENTIALITY FOR COUPLES (IF RELEVENT)
When couples attend counselling together, anything previously discussed on a one-to-one basis will not be disclosed to the other party without prior permission.
Your use and undertaking of the services of Me Time Therapy constitutes your approval and acceptance of this agreement.
PLEASE NOTE: A COPY OF THIS DOCUMENT WILL BE EMAILED TO YOU TO READ OVER PRIOR TO COMMENCEMENT OF COUNSELLING AND WILL BE DISCUSSED IN DEPTH DURING YOUR INITIAL APPOINTMENT.
